Hi guys. I have an AMD Dual Core 6400+ 3.2 GHz. Idle temp is usually at 30C, sometimes 28C, but when I start up CoD4, it jumps up to around 55-60C. Is that too hot? I have a Zalman 9500A and one case fan ($8 one). I'm 95% sure the HSF is seated on there correctly and I've got Arctic Silver 5 on it.

Even if it's not too hot, I'd like to know some ways to cool it down if there ARE any. I heard that you can increase your fan speeds to 100%, but I've no idea how to do it. Or are there any other ways to cool it down?

Thanks.

55-60 is hot, but not too hot. A lot of amd cpus with stock fans would hit that range. Try running it with case open, and see if that makes a difference. If it does, you need more case circulation. Otherwise I would try and reseat the heat sink. A good aftermarket heatsink should do better than that even with a 125w tdp cpu.

Also, you can try dropping the voltage in the bios a little at a time and see if it is still stable. That's a really fast chip, so I'm not sure what the margin is, but going from 1.4 to 1.3 or 1.2 is a big drop in power / heat.

So it's fine though, right? It's not going to die on me or anything?

edit: I dunno what's wrong with my PC, but I can't access any CPU stuff in my BIOS. It just doesn't seem to be there.

It's fine. Don't worry until it gets to about 70.
