The overclocking guide is fantastic... tons of useful info. There's a feature on the EVGA 750i board that I'm a little unclear on; that is "unlinking" the FSB and DRAM speeds. I'm running the stock cooler for the Q9550; I can jump the FSB to 1600 and lower voltage to run around 70C in that config. With the "unlinked" setting I can set the DRAM to 1066 (I have DDR2 8500 to support it).

The only weird thing I've noticed it that it seems to automatically adjust the multiplier to 8 instead of 8.5.

So, first, does having a odd FSB/memory ratio result in sub-optimal performance, and is there any reason the multipler resets to something different?

Thanks in advance.

play around with it you can get the 8.5back - i think
best to run ran at 1:1

so if you got 400fsb run the ram at 800 and 4-4-4-12 (or 15) 2.05-2.1v for 2GB sets and 2.1-2.15 for 4gb sets
