This is likely a 24/7 machine for everyday use, gaming, video encoding, various other tasks, etc. I plan to OC this quite a bit, and I want cool temps, a stable system, and so on. Noise isn't that much of an issue. I don't plan on upgrading this for awhile: 8GB of RAM when it becomes necessary, but not much beyond that. I haven't even glanced at hardware in the past 4 years so I'm pretty new at this.
OS: 32-bit XP, to eventually be replaced by 64-bit Vista, dual boot with Linux
I have no special plans to cool the HD/RAM/NB/SB, but I probably will add a case fan on the side panel. Let me know if this looks good, or if there's anything else I should consider before going ahead. My plan is to run Prime95 for 24 hours once I have everything set up.
A suggestion: Look into buying an X38 chipset. P35 is a bit dated in my opinion. X38 will cost you more, but the performance will be better. X38 chipsets are cool and stable which I can see are a couple of your concerns. They also overclock quite well so you can squeeze more performance out of your processor before upgrading.
Oh and stick with the stock cooling on your 8800. It does a fine job. I own one and I cannot complain about the stock cooler. It is not worth the extra expense in my opinion.
Last item for now. I agree with geotech. You need to get a 64-bit OS otherwise you'll be wasting the RAM. Waste is bad so either buy Windows XP x64 Edition if you MUST have XP, or buy Vista Home Premium x86 (Retail NOT OEM) and send away for the x64 disk. It'll cost you shipping, but at least then you'll have a 64-bit OS and DirectX 10 support (for what that is worth).
