ok, i have scraped together about $600 for an upgrade to my sadly
declining 939 build.
what i'd like if possible are some suggestions on makes and
components to get? all i need is a new motherboard, cpu, ram and
graphics card. here's what im thinking -

  • intel q6600 - $209
  • DFI LANPARTY DK P35-T2RS - $80 (open box...bad idea?)
  • G-Skill 2x2Gb PC 8000 DDR2 memory - $85
  • Asus ATi HD 4850 - $195
total = $569 less tax which will probably be about $40

    all from newegg.

what would you suggest? can i get better for that price?
any help or tips would be HUGELY appreciated :)
    thank you

    Heres my suggestion.
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache

A little cheaper and faster for gaming use (higher fps), your 3dmarks will be lower but since games dont take real advantage of quads yet or the forseeable future, and it overclocks like mad.
    BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 CrossFire X

i wouldnt suggest open box simply cause you may not get any accessories or know the quality. also this board is pci-e 2.0 and supports crossfire (CFX x8) which with the 4850 shouldnt bottleneck it much at all. you could always pick up another 4850 and beat out the gtx280 or be damn close to it.
with the other parts your total would come to $608.35 with shipping. and unless you live in a state that has internet ordering tax, you shouldnt have to worry about that. as far as i know only n.j. and califoria does cause their 2 main warehouses are in those states. in mass. i never had to worry about that.
oh and that 4850 is a sweet card. got myself one about a week ago and its great.
p.s. if you decide to go with the Q6600 get the oem version for 189.99

and the arctic cooling freezer pro for $40 w/shipping

    much better than stock cooling.
