Hello, i had to do hp recovery and now it says <windows root> system 32/ntoskrnl.exe missing to reinstall it. the thing is I don't have a recovery disc and all I had to do before it recover it to the way it came which everything was pre-installed. Can anyone tell me if there's a way for me to go on someone else computer and make a copy of this file onto a cd and then installit on my computer without affecting the other person's computer. if so please give me detailed instructions as to how.
can you borrow a real MSFT XP disk from someone, not a recovery disk, boot with the disk and as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key.
In the Microsoft Windows XP setup menu press the R key to enter the recovery console.
Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password.
Type: expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32 ( if D: is your CD ROM)
You will then be prompted if you wish to overwrite the file type Y and press enter to overwrite the file.
Type exit to reboot the computer.
