Hi all!

I am deciding which graphic card to buy for a new system with a Q6600 processor.

From what I have read, people tend to prefer ATI to NVIDIA for example for watching films, assuming high definition (correct me if I'm wrong).

This makes we wonder which graphic card is better for different applications. For what applications would you go with ATI? and NVIDIA?

Thanks!

ATI is mostly known for a higher quality picture/HDV viewing because of drivers. Nvidia is for gaming. This is just to put it in black and white. It's not that simple....

That's right, also ATI cards can have a separate "mirror" output, the windowed display on the main monitor can be fullscreen on the secondary monitor, a facility which is missing from all Nvidia cards since the 8x00 series. And the latest ATI cards have full HDMI audio, also missing from Nvidia's cards. I find ATI cards better for multimedia in general, and I use both Nvidia and ATI video cards in my systems. The best Nvidia cards are a bit faster for gaming, but the soon to be introduced next generation of ATI cards may change all that.
