AMD 2300 BE X2 1.9 GHZ

Ok 1 core works 1 core literally will not load anything will not show up on anything other than device manager. I know it works cause i took it WITH the mobo (cpu still in it) and put it in my dad's case. the only thing thats new is a different cd drive same psu same HD same ram AND A FRESH INSTALL OF VISTA!

Now why i think it is acpi is beause when i turn acpi off in bios only 1 core shows in device manager (ONLY device manager), when enabled it shows 2 cores in device manager (only device manager). Does anyone know of a setting in windows VISTA that has anything to do with the cores? I have searched the AMD website and a few people have this problem, but there are no answers except "do a clean install" BUT THIS IS A CLEAN INSTALL! anyone know of a bios setting that could be it?

Also was mentioned somewhere on the AMD forums of renaming some files but i didnt understand. Ill do i clean install if i ant get it to work but i really dont think it it wlll work.

tried it with CnQ on and off.

Okay now wait abit for my plan...

Remove your graphics, set integrated memory usage to 256MB, underclock the ram to 667Mhz and if we get similar results in SiS Sandra... I'll set to 1.9Ghz and remove 2GB of RAM, okay?

you have a lazy core, you need an eye patch over the good core, then your lazy core eye will strenght.

ok i did that joke before, you have an ECS mobo what do you expect? you must have got it free at fry's why do you think those are free? ok joke sucs too.

try a windows repair, if both cores work in bios, you can tell by the temps - if they both work in bios then its os.

some os have core disable in bios - its rare

we had a few of these lately - i build systems every week and have never seen this issue. when you fix it please post why it was caused and how you fixed it.
thx!

Thats my dad's computer as is. No graphics card 256MB integrated Video Ram. ram is 2 GB at 667MHZ. That core is not working you can trust me on that one so yes the results would have a huge difference. The computer runs so slow like my old 1.6 GHZ single core celeron.

I may end up fixing it with a whole new CPU. im re-installing vista Monday. ECS has so few options in the Mobo and it doesn't show if its dual core. if the re-install of vista does not work on monday ill put my graphics card in and see if that works so it is a 100% replica of my old computer (when it worked).

On a side note is there a way to turn a core off? like on my E1200? if u can turn it off than maybe if i turned a core that is already not working off it may trigger something.

This thing used to work great, that AMD 2300 BE 1.9 GHZ is way faster than this E1200 (it is basically a core 2 duo) same architecture and i was told core 2 duo's are alot faster almost 2 times faster clock by clock. Who ever said that i really am hating right now.

^ I'm trying to do a test as fair as possible! We need to remove as many variables as possible... (to confirm if it is really disabled)

Here are my results:

DC = Dual Core

SC = Single Core

I understand what your trying to do, but i don't need a chart to tell me its not working. Remember i used it when it was working properly and now when its only have working, it takes an ass load of time just to open firefox, where as it used to be instant.

Lets not try to figure out if its disabled but how to fix it. You can trust me when i tell you it is not doing anything. and the computer is very slow.

No im not trying to be mean (people for some odd reason get mad at me for no reason so thats why im saying this), i appreciate your help and really need your help as well.

What program u want me to DL? ill go ahead and do a quick test (if its free) to make sure.

Forgot to add its not overheating 40C on load!

I read an article to go to Msconfig and go to advanced something and check detect HAL. so that's what i did.

Msconfig>Boot>advanced options>Detect HAL than i restarted

DID NOT WORK AFTER THE RESTART! but i got a popup about me needing to restart again, so i thought "wow wtf" and restarted any way. THAN BAM BAM BAM! it worked 2 cores activated, so i unchecked detect hal again and restarted to make sure it would work after a restart. and it did.

PHEW next best thing to winning the lotto, not nearly as long of an effect but still the same sensation :p
