i just bought a new PC... and i see my e8400 3ghz (stock cooling) is displaying only as 2ghz in cpu-z (latest version), whenever I run a program or do a benchmark it jumps up 2.66.
can anyone explain that? it says the same in my BIOS...2.66ghz. multiplyer is also 6x... during a benchmark it jumps to 8x.. where it should be at 9x.
I ran another benchmark that gave me the speeds/results of an e8200. =/
if anyone can help that would be great.
thanks !
PS. i did have a power saving utility installed that came with the motherboard, yet ive just uninstalled that and there's no change.

Read the 'sticky'. Your system has 'Speedstep' enabled in BIOS. It's fine.
I disabled c1e (couldnt find EIST) and changed multi from x8 to 9 and im finding a very nice improvement in my cpu performance... it's gone from 2.66 to 3ghz.
