I am new to this site, so I am sorry if I don't make much sense. I've had this old pc for about 5 years. It's not my main pc, but I want it to experiment with different programs and OSs. I plugged in the old pc, but only the red light on the front turns on. Nothing appears on the monitor. The power supply runs fine. The hard drive was making a clicking noise. I opened the slide on the side and saw there is a red light turned on. I disconnected the hard drive. I read the problem might be with the CMOS, so I took out the battery and made sure the power supply was properly connected to the mobo.
When was the last time the PC worked correctly? Were any changes made to it since then? I'd try a different video monitor. Also, how do you know that the power supply is working correctly?
Specifics about your system might help. What model number motherboard, power supply, CPU, CPU cooler, video board, RAM, hard disk, optical drive, etc do you have?
