Thanks everyone for your help in advance...

i have a q6600 which runs stable at 3.6 ghz however while playing ETW for a good few hours the max temps with real temp reached 66 (C) i was a bit concerned.

however what i want to ask is that is there much difference between running a q6600 at 3.6 ghz than at 3.4 ghz and is there much gain?

cheers

There's quite a lot of difference in temps between 3.4GHz & 3.6GHz with my Q6600. I take it you mean Tcase was 66°C? If it was Tjunc temos at that then don't worry about it!

Ya man... heat. I would just underclock it to 3.4ghz and be done with it. Once you've hit about 3.2ghz you've hit about the max your CPU cause it is limited with the whole cache thing. You'll go a little faster but the good don't outweigh the bad once you get that high. I overclocked my Q6600 to 3.5ghz fine and set my FSB to 1600mhz and my CPU blazes now even more than it did on stock speeds.
