Hey everyone who reads this.
I am searching for a solution for a problem we have at work.
My boss wants me to upgrade the computer I am currently on to Windows 8 64 bit.
Since this computer runs Windows Vista 32-bit, there are problems to be seen.

I read a lot threads that were pointing out on this case. I also checked the Microsoft FAQ-Help section.
After reading these threads and help answers, I got really confused.

This is where I am currently at with information followed by a few questions, so please bare with me:

- If I want to upgrade from ANY Windows 32-bit version, I first have to upgrade to windows 64-bit, and then I will be able to upgrade to an 64-bit OS.

Is the switch between 32 and 64 bit possible with only a legitimate CD or can it also be torrented? ( I DO HAVE A LEGIT KEY )

If I upgrade to 64-bit, can I use the same key that this 32-bit OEM already has? I mean, it is still the same Windows right?

Thank you all for helping me, I really appreciate it.

Kind regards.

Glenn.

When you upgrade to Win 64 bit, that IS your OS !

It is not the same "Windows" New key needed but Contact the manufacturer of your computer first and find out if they can provide an alternate 64 bit recovery disc for your computer, they might charge a small shipping and handling fee.

Cool, thanks.

So, I can not upgrade upgrade my 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS?
I also started reading the stickies, which i should have done earlier so my excuse for that, that:
"OEM copies of Windows Vista come in either 32, or 64 bit flavors. You must decide which version you want, and make sure you purchase that copy. With a retail copy, you get both 32 and 64 bit Windows Vista DVD’s in the same box."

I assume this is true. So now it basicly means that I need to re-buy Vista for a 64-bit version?
Could it be smart to dodge this by whiping the HDD?

sounds like a plan if you dont mind losing all, and starting clean

Why would you buy Vista 64 bit, install it, then upgrade to 8? Would we way simpler to just buy the 8 64 bit and install that. It would be like walking to your car, then running around it a few times before getting in.
