my planned rig :
>gigabyte 8800GT 256Mb pcie 2.0
>2 x 1 Gb OCZ platinum rev
i read in the gigabyte's website that i wud need a min 450 w PSU.. wud that be enuf for this Rig ?? or do i need more....plz help
You are kidding about the 256Mb GT card right?? I would aim for the ATI 4850 if you can afford it or at least a 512Mb GT... Unless you plan to game on 1024x768!!
From other peoples experience Ballistix RAM will overclock better than OCZ sticks. My attempts to overclock good OCZ PC6400 RAM failed at only about 880Mhz (relaxed timings, overvolting, etc. with a similar Gigabyte board)
I am liking the Corsair PSU series... They are all v. well built.
VX - cheaper, non-modular
HX - more expensive, modular
You can get away with the 450 (VX) Watt model for your system (cheapest). Only if you would consider a more hefty card or CrossFire/SLI in the future would you need more. Most people would so it's worth going to at least 550Watts (min).
Here's a tiered list of PSUs for your reference (generally stick to Tiers 1-3):http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=108088
