Hey guys,
I have been trying to get Crysis to work on my system, but it keeps freezing.

My specs are:
evga 680i
Qx6850 quad core at stock (3.0ghz)
2X2gb mushkin ram
msi 8800 ultra sli

I think my specs are able enough, because my framerates are great. I tried playing it on the lowest settings and everything was really smooth, but the game still froze. The screen froze, but usually in the beginning the computer is fine, because the caps lock light still flicks on and off. However, after a while the computer also freezes ( I cannot get out of the game using ctrl + alt + del)
Any help would be appreciated.

assuming the basics...
you have the latest motherboard drivers, graphics drivers (official releases), and crysis update...
and your power supply unit is sufficient (ie. around 1000 watts for your setup)
and your temperature isn't an issue (see if it lasts longer with the case open and case fans on full blast)

try overclocking your CPU to 3.5-4ghz and see if that stops the freezes. I get freezes or BSODs when i have my q6600 @ 2.4ghz but no problems when oc'd to 3.3ghz.

quadcores can be a bottleneck to gfx in my opinion due to their relatively lower clock speeds.

What is your memory voltage set at? You might need to bump it up by .1 or .2v, depending on the default voltage on the ram. The 680i boards normally default to 1.8v I believe, you may need more depending on your ram. Mushkin makes many different ram modules, and they don't all use the same voltage, you will have be more specific on specifying exactly which Mushkin ram you have.

Other than that, not much I can suggest, the 680i chipset boards have a certain notoriety about having flaky problems, you could have any number of causes for your freezing.

well.. im running the game on low settings and it still freezes... so i was hoping it wasn't because of my powersupply its a silverstone zeus 850w...
i think the temperature is fine because it freezes in cold and warm temps..

the thing about overclocking is that whenever i chng some setting in the BIOS concerning system clocks and mem, even downclocking, windows doesnt start. my computer restarts on the windows loading screen..

and yes i have all the updates for graphics and motherboard drivers and the game..

sounds like a voltage issue to me..
re check the voltage and multiplier to your CPU as well as your memory..

Your memory should have the recommended voltage printed on the chips...

also what version of forceware are you using? I would recommend 169.21, as it worked great for me with my 8800GT in sli mode

Set your memory voltage to 2.2 or 2.3V for that ram.

my memory voltage has already been set to 2.2V.
also, my cpu multiplier is at 9x with 333mhz and my ram is at DDR2 800 all stock.. not 1:1 ratio or w/e..

my forceware is 175.16, the latest

What temperatures are you encountering at full load for the cpu/ gpu setups? Is your gpu o/c at all? If not try to under clock both the core and memory 20-30ghz/ 50-100ghz and see if you are still experiencing the problem.

how would i check my temps on full load for cpu and gpu?

oh and i noticed one other thing if it is relevant:
when i turn on AA of any type the objects become transparent...
when i restart my computer after it freezes, windows says "your computer recovered from a serious error" and i send the error report and it tells me to update my bios because it doesnt read my ram correctly or s/t..

oh and i got my temps..
in the bios my cpu temps are usually around 45-55 degrees celsius, and my gpu temps are a higher around 65-75

A 700-watt PSU would do fine....
and a Quad Extreme should be plenty, regardless of individual core clock.

exactly, and i realized i can get the game stable, but i would have to set all the settings to low, without any AA, and at 1024x768... the graphics suck, but the game doesn't freeze.. please guys give me some suggestions i bought this expensive computer thinking i could game on it w/ good graphics..

This is likely because it barely stresses your graphics card, and instead your CPU. Try running your ultra's single. Take one out, try to stress your card as much as possible, and then see if it locks up if it did in SLI. If it does, try the other one. If one performs differently, then its probably a defective card.

hey guys so this is what i did... i tried it on without sli and with sli.. now the weird thing is none of them freeze! wth.. i put them on 1600x1200.. 16x AA.. and all HIGH settings.. yet the game looked beautiful and good framerates and it didnt freeze.. i tested it for about 15 mins each

anyone got an idea how to stress test it better?

okay so it froze once on sli.. now let me try without sli..
