New Build (Cpu, ram, mobo)

Hey guys.

I am working on a new build (this will just be cpu, ram and mobo). Everything from the computer minus those components will be reused as there really is no point to upgrading them at the moment. I mainly play games(WoW, Cod 4, Crysis, etc) and do design work(AutoCAD, Pro Engineer, Micro Station). First off this system is intended to be an AMD system just like every other system I have ever built. My past 4 or so builds have been on Abit platforms as I have had bad experiences with Asus. I looking to spend around $500-$600 on these upgrade with tax and shipping to Jersey. I have been doing a lot of research as of late to get up to speed on the quad cores, but I am having a heck of a time finding a board and ram that I like. (I have used Crucial Ballistix for years, and I am currently using OCZ platinum)

CPU (AMD Quad Core 9750)

Motherboard (This is just two that I have found that I somewhat like.)

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-DS4

ABIT AX78

Ram (This is only what I have been looking at, I do not have my heart set on anything as of yet.)

Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

Like I said in the ram title, I don't really have anything set in stone. I am fairly confident that I am going to go AMD again. I have never been much of an Intel fan.

Thanks, Chris

  1. Thanks for the reply MrsBytch. The links have all been edited, and should all work now. I do have two 9600 Gt's, but one is in my backup computer. I do plan on doing an sli setup again. I have never been one for an Intel setup. I mean if there is a setup that is a significant increase over what I am planning and and somewhat near my budget, I may spring for that. What SLI boards would be recommended.

    Thanks, Chris
  2. I have the GA-MA790FX-DQ6 and it works sweet. Giga-byte is another company I probably won't stray away from. The Boards all have nice clean lines and they look good.

I have 4 GB OCZ Reaper and I won't buy but anything OCZ from this point on. The quality is there. Just unbelievable quality and workmanship.

Also http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003. This big ass son of a bitch lowered my temps by a ton. System Temperatures dropped over 10C and CPU dropped 18C.
  3. I think I am going to back off the Quad core. I can buy it whenever I want. I am going to start with the 6400+ X2. I really just need to figure out which SLI board to get.
  4. I believe I have made a decision on my final components for this little upgrade. I decided that at this time, I really don't need a quad core. If I find that I will need it for something, I can order a board and cpu. What does everyone think of this list?
