I have a 939 4800 cpu (i.e. a bit slower than yours) and just got a ati 9850 gfx card and crysis works great with all settings on high (except physics & water on medium) (at 1280x1024). Really nice card, but noisy if you let the fan spin up to 100%

Have you already bought this stuff? Yes, an 8800GS or 9600 would be better, but if you have the 8600 and want to know if it'll work, yes it will. I played Crysis on a mix of med/high on a c2d and 8600GT at 768x1024. It worked fine. Anything else will run even better at that resolution. Heck, I gave the card to my friend who, with 1GB of RAM and a single core 3500, played COD4 with most settings maxed (no AA or AF) and it ran great.

If you can get something more powerful, do it. The 8800GS is REALLY cheap now, about the same price as 8600, so it makes a good entry level card.
