I took a hard disk drive out of my broken Sony Vaio: Seagate Momentus ST9120821AS. I can not find an enclosure or dock to allow me to transfer my files. It is NOT your standard SATA HDD with pins that slide into the enclosure. This model has flat connections which when plugged into the laptop use a ribbon type connector. Any suggestions?

Could you post pictures of the connector? According to what I've seen online, your hard disk is a standard SATA HDD for notebooks. Maybe you just need an enclosure designed for 2.5" hard disks, or perhaps there's a Sony proprietary connector that's covering up your hard disk's true connector?

It is possible that there is actually an adapter that is removable on the SATA connectors. Some of the HP/Compaq laptops have that. Look closely at the SATA pins and pull gently but not to as to break anything. If it slides off and exposes the pins then you issue will be resolved. As r_manic said though, posting some pics might helps us better assist you but in the mean time I will do some more research. Let me know how you progress.
