So I have about 3,500 songs on my Itunes and it says its taking up 22.5GB of space... From what I know my Ipod Touch 32GB should hold about 7,000 songs. So the math doesn't add up... Plz help! is there a setting that I might need to change that brings the GB of space down? cause b4 I bought my new (WD 1TB 7200rpm 32mb cache) Harddrive I had the exact same amount of songs but it said it only took up 13GB.

What's the bitrate on average per song? The advertised "7,000 songs" is only if they're 128kbps as per described by Apple.
I don't know what iTunes sells for download, but I'd expect them to provide at least 256kbps in either AAC or MP3 for decent listening quality.
While lossless (like FLAC) are usually ~1100kbps.

This is year 2009, where 1TB drives are at a mouth-watering $0.07/GB and people value data quality, integrity a lot more than quantity when it comes to digital storage.

there is always some file system waste.

like for instance my program files is 50gb of data but it takes up 57gb of space on hdd.

also like said above 7000 is generic and in no way accurate unless they are 128kbit songs of 3.5 or 4min each .. which isnt the usual quality i would expect from itunes.

^Yes as the two posters said above, apple says it can hold 7,000 songs with 128 so people think "Oh, more songs...great" because most people have no clue what bit-rate is and apple is smart and uses this against them to advertise. Believe me, you don't want to listen 128kbps songs, it gives bad bass and horrible sound distortion, Apple, I am pretty sure gives you either 256kbps or 320kbps which is good quality...but then again its mp3 which is highly compressed and crappy. In comparison I have 4 minute song with 2 copies, one is 64kbps and its 700k in size and the one thats 256kbps is 4.4mb. Thats, where your space is going ;)

 I'm having the same problem. I have a 32 gb Itouch too. All of my music is in itunes with a total of 14gb. then i have about 500mb of apps, and 200mb of photos. In itunes the "other" bar is a staggering 13gb! IDK WHAT it is?! i dont save a calander to it from another source, i dont save movies on my touch i dont sync it with anything except for music, photos, and apps... how do i find out and clear it! :o
