I am trying to help a friend of mine fix a problem, and I really have no idea how this happened.
My friends rig is as follows.
Intel Q6600
OCZ 700W GamerXstreme PSU
4gb Ocz Vista certified ram (actually brand label)
EVGA 8800GT
XFX 680i LT motherboard.
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
He went and picked up more ram for his computer. He was really set on having 8gb. I advised him to get the exact same ram as the original two 2gb stick he had, so he did. He brought it home, unpackaged it and installed the ram. When he plugged everything back in, he got absolutely no video. So, he removed the new ram, keeping his old ram in place. He then plugged everything in again, and got no video. So now not only does he get no video with 8gb in, but he doesn't even get it with his original 4gb.
The computer turns on fine, it beeps and all the fans spin at the correct speed. However there is just no video.
The only guess I have is maybe he had some static and fried his videocard. What do you guys think. Any help would be appreciated, because I would like to help him out.
while that is a possibility, try taking out the old ram and replacing it with the new. then if there is another graphics card you can use, try that as well if that doesn't work.
Could just be the DVI/VGA cord is loose a bit...You would know if you had a static discharge inside your PC (I doubt the CPU would be alive if that were the case...).
I will try whats suggested when he gets home from work. He left his PC here.
He was telling me the motherboard beeped on power up as it should, however I just powered it up and it didn't beep at all. Although all the fans are working fine.
