Right now I have a 700watt 'Win Power' PSU. When I bought it I was a bit of a noob and it was only about £25. Its runs my 8800gts 320mb, E6600 and 4gb of ram no problem; so why buy a better one?

despite not really knowing why I should get a better one I was looking around the web at some. As I am about to mod my CM690 case a little I was really thinking about getting a modular PSU. My budget is low, around the £30-40 mark.

I found one of these: EzCool Super Silent 650 watt Modular PSU Shinny Black. For (inc p&p) £42.

I have heard of EzCool but they seem to be a bit of a 'non-brander' and everyone says to get a branded PSU.

Questions:

Would this be a good purchase?
Is there anything better for a similar price? (I want modular).
Why is branded important?
Is it worth upgrading if the one I have 'does the job'? (I might be getting a 4870).

Thanks
James

If it works fine then keep it. 700watts is more than enough for a single 4870. It won't help to downgrade to 650 watts.

Thanks, can someone explain why everyone says to get a branded psu then?

It's hype. Of course, the more expensive brands tend to have better quality and less defective rate. But it makes no sense to throw away a working 700w psu, since it is already overkill for what you run.
