More Information

Hey all this is my first build decided to do this so that I can upgrade in the future. Any suggestions or helpful ideas are greatly welcomed.

Cpu- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115042

Mobo- ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131232

This here I am a bit iffy on but from what I have read should work fine for my set-up.

Ram- CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memoryx2
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145176

Was going to go with just 4 but figured just to get 8 right off the bat, since I have read Vista likes a lot.

Video card- EVGA 512-P3-N860-AR GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130358

Here I am wondering if i should just stick two in right away or not. At the moment I am not running anything too demanding so two are not needed now.

Hard drive- Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3500320NS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148294

Case- Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS Black Full Tower Case w/ 25CM Fan
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811133021

Psu-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817814014

Here I could use some help, I believe this one will work but being new to this am unsure.

I do not plan to overclock anything right away so was not going to go with any cooling but the stocks stuff. Unless any of you think this will not work for me.

Well hopefully this doesn't make anyone's eyes bleed. What little I know and have read this build seems like it should work but then again I am a noob.

Thanks for all your help! Cheers!'

Seems like a pretty good setup. What are you going to be using it for? Video editing? Gaming? Photography? If you're gonna be gaming on it, i would strongly suggest nixing the 9600 GT and going with an 8800 GTS G92. They are only slightly more expensive and give a lot more bang for the buck. That Q9450 is gonna be uber overkill for anything out there! Make sure you install Vista 64 bit, as 32 will only recognize about 3 GIG of RAM. On your power supply, you cant go wrong with Silverstone and of course Corsair.

It will be used mostly for gaming with some video editing. Will go with 64 bit Vista for sure and thanks for the suggestions. Will be ordering in next few days so any more suggestion are great.

The only reason to buy a motherboard with a Nvidia chipset is if you plan on SLI and even then I would suggest against it. I won't buy anything from Newegg unless it has a 90% or better rating of 4 and 5 eggs combined and your board is 79%. One of the Gigabyte P35 boards would be a much better choice that the one you chose.

I would suggest a 8800GT instead of the card you chose and this is $145 after MIR

The RAM you chose is good but I just bought this and it's outstanding and very inexpensive after MIR

I know I just told you the egg thing and I'm about to go against it but I would get this HDD. I have 2 of the 7200.11 500GB and their great and with the one I linked you get an extra 250GB for $5 over the one you chose.

Now we get to the PSU, I assume your looking for pretty lights and modular because I can't see any other reason to choose that PSU. First of all you won't need anywhere near that much power and secondly it's a mid-level PSU and manufacturer. If you want modular look at the Corsair PSU's and something around 500-600w would be more than enough. My personal suggestion would be this.

It's not fancy but it's a great unit at a great price
