Differentiate flat panel 1920x1200 resolution and 720 p

Hello,
the relationship of the recorded image at 720p and reproduction of that image on a 1920x1200 flat panel monitor?

Best way. Display a picture on you computer screen at a low resolution.
Now grab a corner with your mouse and drag it larger.(picture gets grainey)
With 720 to 1080 the same thing happens unless you upconvert(add pixels to image).
