i want to ask how much will be preformance and efficiency difference between western digital black and green series......
taking 32 mb cache version of 500 gb green and black series.....i tried to compare spec of both but little help......i think green can accelerate when required to 7200rpm(IntelliSeek)but black is always on 7200rpm......anyone had experience abt green between black.....i am confused because black is out of stock in my place.......
In my experience there is little visible difference between the blacks and greens in actual use. The one thing to be aware of, though, is that the greens will spin down after several seconds of inactivity. This means that you will have occasional 2-3 second delays when accessing data as the drive spins up again.
I've used a green drive as the OS drive and it's never idle long enough to spin down. But as a data drive it does occasionally spin down.
The green does not accelerate to 7200RPM - it is always at a slower speed (closer to 5400 RPM). I'd personally go for the black, but the green certainly isn't bad.

The green drive is energy effecient. That should be enough info for anyone to figure out the difference. It simply will not be as fast as the black drive, and I too have heard that there can be several seconds of lag when the drive spins down. If you use your PC for internet, music, email, Office apps, the normal home stuff, a green drive would work fine for you. If you are a performance buff, hard core gamer, etc, you should go for the the black drives.
if i went back again.. i would have bought ALL BLACK drives... for the price difference and looking the performance i would get the black... i also have a 1TB 7200.11 and it seems slower... so i don't think i would go for a spinpoint...
