i have a dell inspiron 530 and wanted to upgrade it, for that i would first need a new psu. I was looking at this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139003)(first one on the list), but i read that some psu's might not fit in a dell case... Which psu's would fit in my case (around 500w), or does the one i posted fit?
thanks

Measure the one you got and post the results. I'm almost sure a StealthXStream 600W would fit.

I got one into an HP box once after my first choices turned out to be too large (550VX, 520HX, Silencer 610, all too big).

I fixed your link to the 450VX, it's here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139003

Both the 450VX and the StealthXStream 600W are this size:
3.4" Height x 5.9" Width x 5.5" Depth

Check if your current PSU is the same, OK?

Between those two, the 450VX is probably a bit higher quality, but the StealthXStream is a lot more powerful. Same price at newegg today.

I have nothing witty to say.

As far as I see there are two inspiron 530 slimline and normal. If it is slimline then most likeley normal psu's will not fit. And even if it is normal size Dell use BTX cases in most of their pc's so that left and right sides are swapped. So normal PSU probably will not fit. You shoild get one of theese: http://www.pcpower.com/products/power_supplies/dell/

Yikes, $110+shipping for a 500W PSU that won't even be reusable in the next computer. That stinks... Maybe the OP should consider building a new PC from scratch.

Just a word of advice when installing a new psu into a Dell: You may have to mod the case yourself. By mod I mean hammer the living s*** out of the metal to get the psu to fit. I modded a new psu into my dimension 4550 and I had to cut a new hole and hammer the little bumpy risors that held the psu in place. Keep in mind that you should measure your current psu and new psu to make sure the new one will fit. My dell's proprietary psu was only a smidge smaller than normal thus forcing me to mod my case.

It was fun though :)

Good luck.

I am sure he can find them cheaper if he search around a bit. It was just a informative link what he needs to get.

Here it is cheaper on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817703016
I have put two of them to compare one is ordinary and other one is for dell. Otherwise the same. The model ending with D is for Dell fitting. Otherwise I think they are the same.

All the Dell 530's ship with a standard ATX PSU.
I just received mine and will be swapping it out for a Corsair TX 650.

That one is the same size as the 450VX, and definitely reusable in a future PC. Good idea IMO. It's $75 at www.buy.com.
