wat kind of power supply is with the pc i doubt a good one. u would need a good quality psu around 600watt. and ur cpu will bottleneck it alot but overclock it so it wont be as much. And ya 300 is a reallllyyy good deal.

What is the price on the 4870 and what will the avaiablity be when there released, its hard to think that a single GPu can beat 2 GPUs but whats the price on them?

That card at $300 dollars is worth it. I think it's worth it even if you put 100-125$ into a new PSU, just make sure it fits in your case.

BTW, I don't think the 4870 is going to beat the 9800GX2.

Really? Please link me to these great benchmarks you've got of an unreleased card!!
[/sarcasm]
Dude, the card was released just months ago and it still is beating the new GTX280 in most of the benchmarks. It's not obsolete.

^Agreed. The 4870X2 probably will, but not the 4870.

$300 for a GX2 is a steal....I'd say go for it with a new power supply since whatever PSU came with that system is not going to be enough. Overclocking your CPU would help a lot too, although if it's an HP system then probably the BIOS is locked and the motherboard crap (for overlocking at least).

I wonder if that 9800GX2 will fit in the HP case. The OP might need a new case too, not just a new PSU.

If the card does fit, and you need to buy a new PSU but want to keep the old case, keep in mind that a lot of the best big PSUs won't fit in those HP boxes. Try a GameXStream 700W for example, those are decent quality and smaller than most.

Be careful buying from a non-reputable source! Lots of people get burned doing stuff like buying on eBay etc....this is as the same level!

I would wait till next week for some concrete GTX260 and hopfully 4870 reviews. I would suspect the 4870 outperform the GTX260 but not quite the 280. But hell, if thats true, for $300, I'm sold.

The 9800GX2 is a great deal at $300, but TBH I wouldn't buy it second-hand. It may be a card that was overclocked too much and got damaged, or it was defect already and the owner just wants to get rid of it. I don't know what kind of warranty you get this way either. I don't know, it may be a great buy, I just wouldn't have the courage to buy it myself.
