Will my psu be enough for this card?

Hey,

I recently bought a new psu, Antec Basiq 500w dual rail with 18 amps on both 12v rails. I was wondering if it is capable of running an Ati radeon hd 3850. I recently asked if it could run an 8600 gts but now decided that I might get this one instead, if my psu can power it.

Thanks in advance.

i'm powering my radeon HD4850 with the same amount of power. so you should be fine. unless of course you need to have 8 hard drives connected and you have an insane overclock on your cpu :)

Lol, thx

I will probably settle with a 512 mb ddr4 radeon 3870 though. This is only cuz at microcenter they sell one for less then the 3850...which is wierd too. lol

You are good to go. I think the 3870 only requires 450 Watts at an absolute max. There are some great deals on the 3870s right now but if I were you I think I would go for a 4850 for just a little bit more and get A LOT more performance!

A 3870 underperforms an 8800GT by quite a bit.

The HD4850 beats the 8800GT by 22% plus matches the performance of a 9800GTX.

The HD4850 has the same power requirement as the 3870.

hmm problem about that is I cant spare 50 more bucks. I needa buy a card now to test my new build to see if it actually works, and if it doesnt I will be able to return all the pieces I bought. I only have 10 days or so to return it and I am on a tight budget. but yes I do wish I could get a 4850 instead....
