Hey all i'm new here, :hello: and i've built many systems in the past and generally never have to go to anybody for help but i recently sold my gaming PC and i'm stuck with a AMD 4000+ @ 2.41ghz Single Core, and 3gigs of DDR RAM and a 7900gt..

Now here for the question.

Will i really see a performance increase with a 9600GT on a game like Age Of Conan or is the CPU just going to limit the crap out of my 9600GT and make it just as worthless at the 7900GT..This isn't a debate on what GPU to get just a question as i'm having a hard time deciding what to do.

Thanks all! :bounce:

you will definetly see improvement as games are mostly dependent on the gpu. but the cpu will greatly limite the potential of the 9600 gt. personally i wouldn't upgrade the gpu if you are a not planning on upgrading the cpu, but that's only my opinion.

While yes the cpu will be a bottleneck, you will see a very significant increase in performance. If you have the money, I say upgrade. Maybe a 9600 gso or 3850 would be a better choice?

Appreciate the quick responses,i think i'm going to goahead and upgrade to a 9600GSO and save myself $70.

I think it depends on what resolutions you play at, the higher the resolution the more gfx dependent a game becomes. If you game a lot at 1280x1024, the 3850 or 9600GSO should serve you well.

Now if you game at 1920x1200 a lot, the 9600GT might be smart.

I wouldn't game at 1920x1200 with a single core processor....

^^Agreed. But with the CPU he has, I really doubt he is gaming at 1920x1200. lol.

He said hes going to get a 9600GSO. That should serve him well.
