I am trying to decide between two similarly priced cards. I play Oblivion a lot, and I've heard that 1GB of VRAM helps if you use a lot of large texture replacers (i.e. Qarl's Texture Pack 3, Qarl's 4096x4096 normal maps, 4096x4096 color maps, and Almost Everything Visible When Distant). What do you think?
Thanks for the replies. Do you think my Athlon X2 5200 will cause a bottleneck? Or my nForce 4 chipset?
No you will be fine, but I will tell you what I tell everyone who asks similar questions. Just think about it like this. Even if a bottleneck exists...the faster card will still be faster than the slower card. You may not get everything out of that card that it has because of said processor, but alas the GTS will always be faster than the GT. Hope this helps!

I'm playing Oblivion with Qarl's Texture Pack and Tamriel Viewable when Distant mods, and it isn't the GPU, nor the CPU that will slow your game, but the HDD (My GPU is 8800GT OC and my CPU Core2 Duo E6750 @ 3 GHz). If you have Vista and want to use those mods with Oblivion I recommend at least 4 GB of RAM to reduce stuttering.
