Hello,

i have seagate 1.5 tb drive which locks up frequently for no reason. I keep the firmware up to date.

i download seatool and try to test it, but it does not start the test. Under drive status, it said fail to start.

My question is : is it dying?

I am going to need another drive while i am sending this for replacement. can you recommend me one. possibly from western digital. i prefer 1 tb and above.

Thanks.

I'd say a drive that won't run consistently and fails to even start the diagnostic designed for it is dying.

I just picked up a WD Caviar Black 1TB for $99 at BestBuy. Great drive, fast, silent as the grave, 5 yr warranty.
