i ordered a 9800GTX and i will test company of hero's and some other games on it and see how it does i will be useing my 22" LG widescreen 1680x1050. so if you can hold off until tomorrow i will let you know how good the 9800GTX is.
In term of performance, 9800gtx = 8800gts. It makes sense as they both use identical g92 core with the same 128 stream processors. If you can get 9800gtx for the same or cheaper price as 8800gts, you should consider it, otherwise, ignore it. http://en.expreview.com/2008/04/03 [...] review/12/
i vote gts because i play on my $209 msi 8800 gts g92 at 1440x900 and i could finally play crysis , and since its cheap it doesnt hurt as much by upgrading in a year or so
Hi guys read on some other forums that its not worth going with ECS crappy service ..so i think that MSI is a good choice.
What service? It's a card. If it comes defective, which hardly ever happens, rma to newegg, if not, you do not need service. Besides, 3 year warranty is good enough, the card will be long obsolete after 3 years anyway. It's $50 more for service you'll likely never use. You can buy extended warranty for less than that.
I currently use a MSI card, btw, since it was the cheapest at the time I built the current rig.

I'd rather have evga or XFX, but I wouldn't pay more than $20 extra tops for one. How much service do you need for a video card anyway? I'd only be concerned if it were the $50 rebate people complained they were not getting. Buy it from Newegg and they will replace it for 1 year if it goes bad. Also, Can't say for sure, but I doubt ECS makes the card anyway. I'd be surprised if it weren't a flextronics or foxconn rebadged like many of the other "brands".
The cheaper Zotac may even be OK. Not sure how the rebates are. But it's a Lifetime warranty. Not Newegg by any means, but I ordered a Zotac 8800GTS 320MB for $88 shipped from FX Videocards and all went smoothly with the transaction. I would buy from them again and even buy that $147AR GTS now if I needed the card. No tax to me unlike Newegg makes it a bigger bargain.
Do you really need a new card? I'd think the 8800gts 320 could handle most games at 1440X900.... my X1950pro w/256 does decently with most games at 1680X1050....
But if you really want to upgrade now, I would definitely go with the 8800gts 512.
Otherwise, I would actually suggest waiting to see what ATI has coming. The 4850 should cost around $200, and may perform higher than or close to an 8800gts 512.
Edit: Hesskia beat me.

I have the 320 w/ 22" LCD and have come to the same conclusion--anything that i upgrade too won't be worthwhile unless i spend $400+ which isn't worth it to me at this time. I almost pickedu p a 2nd 320 on the Zotac deal, but missed out cause i contemplated it too much.
Sorry SZ, you should wait. The way its looking, the 4850 is better than a GTS, and for 200 its a good deal. Theyre going on sale in europe tomorrow, so maybe here in the states as well, no waiting

So far, 4850 seems like it's only slightly better than a stock g92 8800gts, and likely not oc as well. At $200, it's not the best value compared to gts's $160 after mir. 4870 is the sweet spot.
We dont really know how well they oc yet, as everything Ive seen http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] ost3059788 has to be done in CCC which is still a 12.5% oc, but time will tell. Its the same chip that its big brother has which starts at a 20% higher clock, I think theyll oc very well, and after the dust clears, there may be some choice buys, cause overseas theyre already selling for as low as 210, maybe cheaper in the states from the git go

I couldn't find a better deal on the 9800gtx and as such i am taking the plunge as in a few months i'll pic another 2 and go 3 way sli FTW whooo
Yes you are right if you upgrade from 8800GTS 320M, it is the only good option to build a 3 way SLI with 9800 GTX or SLI 9800 GX2 right now because the price of 9800 GX2 also dropped to more attractive price.
Why pay 220 when you can get similar or greater performance with a 4850? Save yourself some money http://fxvideocards.com/Sapphire-H [...] 16386.html When DX10.1 games come out, or even DX11, these will be even better

The 4850 is faster than a 9800gtx from the review's i have seen save yourself a hundred buck's get the better performing 4850 an watch the 9600gt and 9800gtx go wayyyy down in price or dissapear all together.
Cool i am convinced ...picking up the 4850 tommorow , now should i pick up 2 cards or is one card going to be enough for 1440x900 res on a 19inch widescreen.
Unless its Crysis, good to go. And by that I mean, all other games full eyecandy, just not with Crysis
