I game at 1680x1050 on a 20" monitor (check out my sig) with my 7900gs 256mb....ya, its time to get a new card. Would it be the best idea to just pick up a 4850 512mb or wait for the 1gb 4870 or would the extra memory not be needed at that resolution? I'm losing my mind thinking about which card to get, my money is burning in my pocket. I need some advice.

Although going from 7900gs to 4850 is certainly a big jump, you should ideally wait for the 4870. 4850 perform only about the same as a g92 8800gts, for around $40 more. 4870 is the one to get.

Legit benchmarks aren't out yet. Its all speculation and sketchy benchmarks, however the 4850 is supposed to cost 200, which is about as much as the GTS. AMD has been very mysterious about these cards... its a week before launch and we haven't even seen any official benchmarks yet.

^+1 We don't have any official benchmarks out yet, so we have no Idea how they will perform. They could be horribe, they could be great. And as for the question on what to get, I would say just wait until it is released.

A german website did a benchmark of 4850s in crossfire

looked like pretty good performance even in VH Crysis - it doesn't look like AA is an option for the 4850 Crossfire; however Crossfire 4870s might be able to pull off 1920*1200*4xAA

We'll have to wait for the review to be sure though, of course
