To me, an obvious question. If you disconnect the 1st and 2nd USB external drives, do the others work? Or do they work if plugged in where the others were? If the others are full, you don't need them plugged in right now, eh?
-Sorry for double-post. But i cant edit my own thread for some reason?-
Hi, im about to install a fresh copy of Win Xp Pro over my old os. Atm im c/ping everything to external hdd's. But ive run out of room on 2 of them. And both my 3rd (Wester Digital ) and 4th external (Hitachi ) are being read by my pc. But in My Computer i cannot see them, so i cant open them up to transfer the rest of my junk to them.
s/s of my Pc spec.
Here are s/s of the 1st and 2nd ext hdd in My Computer.

Yes the 1st and 2nd ext hdd's are disconnected when i have the 3rd and 4th connected. Im using the usb ports at the front of the tower which only has 2 ports. Put my pc slows down when i hv 3 internal and 4 ext hdds running at the same time. The 3rd and 4th are show in device managment to be running properly. But i just cant access them in My Computer to transfer my junk off my internal hdd's to them.
Go to Computer Management then Disk Management and look at the drives listed there.
Each drive should be listed as Healthly and every primary partition on the drives should also either Active or System. Each should have a drive letter assigned. If it doesn't, right-click on the drive and assign one.
It's possible that you previously set the externals to use existing drive letters and this is confusing them.
I'd also give those "local disk" drives more useful volume labels, gotta be confusing sometimes!
