I want to upgrade my video card when the 4870X2 comes out. Currently I have a 680i SLi motherboard. Will I be able to run the 4870X2 on my SLi motherboard? If yes, will I be missing out on some performance or will it be the same? If no, then whats a good x48 motherboard I could run my Q6600 on and a 4870X2?

Yes - a single 4870X2 will run on your 680i motherboard.

Performance differences are unknown - should know in about a week's time.

I mean, since it's an ATi card on an NVIDIA made motherboard, will I be losing performance from the video card?

no, thats been tested to death.

If it has a PCIe slot, you can use your card on it. Period. Little to no performance hit.

I was wondering whether the 4870x2 would utilize the PCI-2 bandwidth, or would the PCI-1 bandwidth bottleneck the card.

Read reviews to know for sure when they come out. My guess: It may limit it at high resolutions and settings. Why? 4870X2 uses GDDR5 which means lots of bandwidth maybe more than the PCI-E 1.1 can handle, I know Crysis and the likes can push bandwidth that high.

I'm pretty worried about the AGEIA PHYSX situation because Nvidia bought over that company. I'm pretty sure some ATI users will be wary about that fact. Will games with Physx support suffer on the ATI cards?
Or will both companies work for the better good for all gamers!

The Physx has been hacked to work on ATI cards too, and ATI has partnered with Havok for physics as well, so best of both worlds
