I just built a new box with an ASUS P5K-E MB, 4x1GB DDR 800 and 2x Maxtor SATA 500GB internal HDD. I am planning to install dual-boot with XP-SP3 and Unbuntu. I want to use raid1 with the 2 drives and have both OS installations mirrored. I was about to order a PCI raid controller when I realized that the MB has raid support via the Intel ICH9R Southbridge chip, and what appears to be additional external SATA raid support via JMicron. The documentation is sketchy and I am a bit confused as to whether the Intel raid support is OS dependent, and will only work for the XP partition. Like I mentioned, I need both partitions mirrored.
