Well, well, well...

New GTX 280/260 GPU are out.
Powerful, single GPU, yet they are not delivering what we expected. Personally, i wanted at least 192 SP and the GTX 260 have them but then the performance jump is not that great.
From the time of 7950 GX2, the SLI technology and drivers were reworked so more games can use it; and that it works like it did in the 3dfx era.
The result is the 9800GX2 - 9800GTX SLI for those who have INTEL mainboards with one PCIE slot. Even tought it's bi-GPU it's a single PCIE slot card, and should be considered like mono GPU card.

Now IMO Nvidia is victim of it's own technlogy, they wanted that their SLI to work as good as Voodoo 2 cards did it in the past ( 1024x768 on Quake 2 with good FPS).

I've seen GTX 280 for 525 Euros (590 for a good brand), while 9800GX2 can be found for 390 euros. 130 Euro of difference :pt1cable:
Since we saw that TRI SLI work nice with GTX 280 in games, new driver must be the reason, i see no point buying a GTX 280... cause 3 8800 GT will outperform it by a large margin for less money!!! 3x 169 euro for EVGA 8800GT = 507 euro.

I would like to see a bench of 3-way 8800GT an GTX 260 SLI, but i'm pretty sure that 8800GT's will be on top.

THE ONLY advantage of new GPU is the power they draw, 9800GX2 is beaten in this area but once again Nvidia sucked with the cooler - it's a hurricane? a tornado? Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird? Nooo it's Nvidia GTX 280.

Have a nice day! :bounce:
