The reason I want to buy one is because I went to my friends house the other day and he has the same Timewarner cable I have. Timewarner only goes up to 10Mbps for Road Runner Turbo and in some areas for the Fiber Optic speeds go up to 15Mps. But when he went to speedtest.net he was able to get 25Mps. This is what he told me:

Found something this morning that "seems" to be giving me more consistent results and a new record :) ...

Other than that it really depends on the OS you are using in how you tweak your connection. I would suggest using Vista if you aren't already because it handles broadband a lot better than previous OS's. Do a dogpile (www.dogpile.com) search for "optimizing a broadband internet connection. Just remember a couple of things. 1. ALWAYS backup your registry. I always export it to c:\ for easy access if something goes wrong. 2. Nothing works for everyone. Try each tweak 1 by 1 and test the results. If the tweak works for you then keep it. If not revert back to default.

But how is he getting such a high speed when Timewarner says that is impossible and they don't offer that speed?

My wife runs Vista and I run xp and we get the same speeds. Our Router is 4 years old and not a WiFi router.

Should I try what he told me to do or is it time for a new router? Any help would be appreciated.
