Blue screen error and message

Hello,my laptop (HP running XP w/AMD Turion 64) has been running slower and won't buffer, resulting in choppy videos and now I came home to a blue screen with the following error message:
SYMEFA.SYS PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
stop: 0x00000050 (0xE58F70000, 0x00000001,0xF72FD225, 0x00000001)

***SYMEFA.SYS Address F72FD225 base at F72dD000, DateStamp 4a414030

There were also instructions regarding disabling BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. I have no idea how to do this and from what I've read I'm better off not attempting this without step-by-step instructions. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Try testing RAM using memtest.
