HEY i have the asus p5e x38 chipset and two identacal hard drives that i want to put in raid i am running windows vista 64bit* .. when i instail bouth hard drives do i have to do somethin in the bios or do i need any type off floppy/thumb drive to boot off ? please help

Why do you want to put them in raid? Your apparent level of knowledge regarding the subject leads me to think you shouldn't be screwing around with it.

First enter the bios and make sure drives are set to raid mode. Also disable quickboot and go ahead and save then exit.

Second during startup keep jamming control+I during startup and that should get you to the matrix raid config screen.

Setup your raid and attempt to install windows vista. I don't know what causes it but sometims it will install w/o additional drivers and sometims it won't. If you find yourself needed additional drivers you can dl them from intels site and keep them on a thumb drive just incase.

Asus manuals are good for this kind of thing. So just follow the book, if you need to download the pdf manual from the asus site.
your cd that came with the MB will have the raid drivers that you can put on a thumb flash drive if needed or you may need to get the drivers from the asus site too.
