Closing a program in Win XP

Forum Windows XP : General Discussion Closing a program in Win XP

Hi:

This is a new observation on my daughter's WINXP system. Closing out a
program or an IE browser window on the desktop causes the open window to
close top-to-bottom, like a disappearing night shade. As the window closes,
the desktop underneath is slowly revealed. The windows no longer close by
disappearing when clicking on the X in the top-right corner. Her system is
protected by Norton 2005 with updated definitions; I have Spybot Search and
Destroy, Winpatrol, Ewido Security Suite, Microsoft antispyware Beta, Spyware
Blaster, Adaware SE, and I ran a Cleanup! session. Her system is clean. I ran
Hijackthis and the log looks good. What does this window- and
browser-closing suggest?

Thanks.

Adam

Effects. Some Windows Critical Updates can change this setting.

Right click Desktop | Properties | Appearance tab |
Effects button | UNCheck: Use the following transition effects for menus
and tooltips | OK | Apply | Cancel

Use the following transition effects for menusand tooltips
[[Specifies whether to activate animations for menu commands and other
Windows elements. Animations change how menus, lists, and tooltips open and
close.]]

[[Lists the available transition effects. Click Scroll effect for menus,
lists, and tooltips to slide in and out, or click Fade effect to allow them
to fade-in when you open them and dissolve when you close them.]]

Also, if you have Word 2002, Word changes this setting if Word is open for a
while. And I have no earthly idea why.
