The X48 has better memory compatibilty, The x48 has 1600 FBS native. The X38 will run 1600 FBS in "overclock mode".

Anandtech has a good article about the X48 Chipset. Its about the Rampage Formula, But the P5E Deluxe is the Rampage Formula minus the LCD Poster and the onboard buttons.

I have the ASUS Rampage Formula and I love the board. Its a great overclocker. I recommend the X48 over the X38.

Asus P5E x38 owner, max FSB with stock chipset cooling 524. Very stable, very happy owner, but for the slight extra cash I would get the X48. There is the negative of having to pay $$$ for DDR3 ram though :(, thats if you wanted mind...

Have a nose at this,
