New build. Everything recognized and XP Home installed. Unable to create a network connection. Motherboard has onboard ethernet connection which is powered. When I go to device manager I have no Network adapters listed. Can anyone tell me if this is because it's built in? or is it not being recognized? I understand it may be a windows problem. My goal here is simply to eliminate it being the MB.
Biostar MCP6-M2 motherboard.

Thanks. Greg

Do you have any "unknown device" listings in device manager? If so then the driver probably needs to be installed.

I'll check that. If not can I assume that for whatever reason it is not being recognized?

My solution would then be to bypass with a new NIC. Is that correct?

Thanks for the help.

It could also be disabled in the bios for some reason, but I'd check device manager first and see if there are any unknown or non-functioning devices first.

I was unable to locate it in the BIOS. Where should I be looking?

Comp is not in front of me, so this all has to wait till I'm home.

Appreciate it.

MCP6P-M2 6.x

Hopefully that is your MB, all the drivers that it needs is there.

If your sure the nic is enabled in the bios, try installing the "Chipset-Ethernet" drivers.

You did not install the ethernet driver (It should be on your mobo CD)
Install it and it will work

Fantastic help. It was of course the drivers. The CD was not clear as to the contents. Installed drivers and never looked back.

Thanks greatly.

Greg
