Why wont my dvd part open on my computer? i push the button and it just flashes

I have just gotten my mom's old computer. It has windows XP and the top of it says Balance. I'm assuming that's the brand name. (Don't know if this helps find the problem) Anyway, I tried pushing the button on the dvd part to open it and it flashes a yellow light and won't do anything. What's the problem and how do I get it to open?

Do you know if there is a disc stuck in it. On the front there is a small hole. Get a needle and push it into the hole This should maually open the drawer
