Hey guys lemme tell u about CPU and cooler: Q9450 @ 2.66(no OC) with XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 Using a KRAZE fan at 3000rpm.
The temps i am getting are around 35-37 on all 4 cores (BIOS shows temps at 40c idle). I have seen people with 25c using that same Heatsink and fan. I have the NZXT ZERO case so it has 4 fans on the side planel cooling everything. Are these temps being shown wrong??? What can i do to bring them down? When i tested the sensors with Realtemp all of them were 5-7, so should i think about RMA?
Thanks, hopefully someone can help so i can finally OC
Did you get the backplate for the heatsink? You mightve incorrectly installed it or applied the thermal paste too thin or too thick. Wats the ambient temp in that room?
Heh, my q9450 idles around 49c at last check, but then again its been 90F lately and I have no AC. Even so, I had folding@home going 100% across all 4 cores + gpu folding for 5 days straight. No crashes or anything but the room was crazy hot, so no more of that in the summertime.
Their is a backplate u can order sepretly, do u think it will make difference in temp?
The room is the hottest room in the house, not sure the degree. I have a fan shooting air at me and the case, unless i wanna loose 50lbs from sweating lol
Also their is a spoiler that came with the heatsink to direct airflow i think, should i put that in somewhere and see what happenes, i dont think it will help though because the fan blows the air straight out the back of the case.
I am thinking about remounting the the heatsink and using a different method of applying the past (spreading it all over the CPU, not a line like before) But it was a pain installing it and installing the heatsink
When evaluating temperatures, since there are 101 variables involved, it's important to be sure that you're comparing Q9450 / Xigmatek apples to Q9450 / Xigmatek apples. Remember that when dicussing temperatures, there is a difference between CPU temperature (Tcase) and Core temperatures (Tjunction), so it's important to be specific as to which you are referring.
In a controlled testing environment, the ambient temperature is 22c, and when using a high-end air cooler, this should yield a calibrated CPU temperature of no less than 25c, and calibrated Core temperatures which average about 28c at Idle, (if the Digital Thermal Sensors - DTS - are working properly), with Speedstep enabled (Auto Vcore and 6x multiplier), and case covers removed with all fans at 100% RPM.
Most 45 nanometer DTS sensors begin to respond properly above 50c, so use Prime95 Small FFT's to evaluate Load temperatures. Again it's important to compare apples to apples, so be sure that ambient, Vcore, frequency, multiplier and cooling parameters remain constant. If you're comparing your Load temperatures when using overclocked settings such as manual Vcore and frequency, then be specific as to what your settings are.
