I own a q6600 processor GO stepping and a Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2 Motherboard, 2gbs gskill ddr2 800, 8800GTS 320mb video card, 450 watt psu, Zerotherm Nirvana NV120 cpu cooler.

My question is I can only overclock to 2.997 ghz (333 x 9)
At 3.00 ghz my system crashes or locks up in 3dmark06
333 x 9
I wonder if my problem is my board only supports 1066 fsb and 1333 fsb overclock because at 2.97 ghz is fsb 1333. Or does my voltage need to be increased.

All my overclocking attemps are at stock voltage of 1.120 and memory unlinked

uh....Nvidia 6-series chipsets are notoriously known for their inability to overclock quad core. You might want to look for another board if you want to go further than 3.0Ghz.

I would generally recommend P45 boards. However, if you're going for multi-GPU configuration, I would recommend X48 (for Xfire), or 790i (for SLi). Both boards are not cheap though :(

I have just built PC for a friend using GA-P35-DS3P. Not expensive. Supports Xfire.Running Q9450 at 3.4GHz( 425X8) at the moment all stock voltages. Tried 3.6GHz(450x8) it posts but crashes while loading Windows have not had chance to play with it more but with some tweaks it should do 3.6 or more.
