n :fou: Not happy with this ASUS new mobo.
Description
1.- XP with Sp2 fully patched
2.- Intel E2200 + HD sata 250gb + 1gb kingston

SYMPTOM: Xp hangs while copying files larger than 200gb in/from the sata hdd device. 1 HD 2 patitions 1.-NTFS 2-Fat32 (30 gb for Norton Ghost images)

3.- Have tested memory and HD, fine.
4.- this must be a driver issue due to the fact that the computer works fine while making AND copying a Norton ghost image from the command prompt.

Have installed the drivers (CD) that came with the mobo- BAD
Have flased the mobo to the last version available (0507)
Have installed xp again over an existing xp instalation
Have installed VIA Hyperion Pro Driver Package version 5-15A.
Have installed windows_SATA_v-raid_v570a from viaarena site
Have instaled an SCSI adaptec with a 9.1gb, installed xp and CAN perform the large copy without any problems, say from DVD to SCSI, but not to sata had.
Have change the sata cable
Have change the sata port
Currently I have installed via_hyperionpro_v518a
HAve chkdsk /r the sata hd. The same issue with another 500 sata hd.
No virus / malware found.
Antivirus also was desactivated. Nothing change.

Computer works for hours if working does not involve large files.

Wondering someone that have the same mobo without this problem, to tell me wich driver version he has.

Thank's for yor time.

Splendid
Motherboards that use VIA chipsets are typically low-quality and often have problems like these. Sounds like your problem is a bug in VIA's chipset driver for SATA ports. IMHO the best option is to buy a MB that uses an Intel chipset (or maybe nVidia, which is better than VIA, but not as good as Intel for driver correctness).

PS - I assume you mean "SP3" instead of "SP2" above; if not, definitely install SP3 and all more recent patches.
