I have 4850's on the way that I snagged off FX this morning, for Crossfiring on my P45 board. It will run in 8/8, but luckly the performance "hit" isnt anything to cry about. Crysis benchmarks arent the end all be all of the gaming world, really wish these review sites would stop basing wether or not a card is worth it by how it performs in a crappy game that is nothing but a tech demo. Plus im not playing at 1900 x 1200.
Heres from the link "This is really a very interesting article and is something people need to be taking note of. The first thing you need to be checking is if you're reading a review where Crossfire is being tested. Make sure that the board there using is a x16 / x16 motherboard. The results really do speak for themselves and it’s clear that there is a performance difference between a x16 / x16 configuration which the X48 offers, and the x8/x8 one on the P45.
If you’re really thinking about going down the Crossfire path, we would be highly recommending that you spend the extra money to go to an X38 or X48 based motherboard over the P45. Of course, if you’re not then it doesn’t really matter. With one card the P45 runs at x16, which is exactly what you want." So, what Im saying is, take this into consideration when looking at reviews.

That article has multiple pages. It also includes benchmarks other than Crysis.
Well jaydee's link was accurate, but be that as is may the author of the article is sounding like an Intel shill to sell more X48 boards. Not saying he is, but that last paragraph speaks for itself. We are talking about a 2-5% performance difference.
Instead of taking P45 vs X48 into consideration, I think $130 vs $200+, not to mention the cost of the two video cards to begin with. I chose to upgrade my P35 to a P45 instead of an X48 because of that extra $70+ in cost, I wanted to Crossfire the 4850's and the P45 fit into my budget after those cards, if I went with the X48 well, I would have not been able to afford that 2nd card, nor my Xigmatek cpu cooler.
It does make sence, all the other benchmarks prove the same thing. It dosent matter until you reach 30" monitor status and what not, and even then and before then the difference is miniscule. You as a person are not going to be able to tell the difference between 32fps and 37fps without Fraps or a status monitor telling you so.

Where did you get those fps? It's 21.97 vs 32.7fps on a relatively moderate 1280x1024 resolution. A difference between playable and non-playable, on the same cf 4850 cards. I'd say that's a significant difference. http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/ [...] index.html
Sorry guys, I wasnt done with the intro below the heading. I was ummm uhh pleasently interrupted. But basically this article shows several things. One is, have 16 lanes in cross fire a must, as you see huge diminishing returns with only 8. Secondly, when reading reviews, itd be good to keep this in mind, one the reviewer should know this ahead of time, and let their readers know. Going on that, its always good to keep in mind while reading an article, and evauluating the articles/sites writer
