Hello All,

My WD5000AAKS has failed. As it was on warranty I can get any new harddisk except the WD as the store that I bought it from don't have it.
The main use is as entertainment means music, movies and it's a main download destination for everything.
There are several possibilities in the store:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB ST3500418AS
Samsung EcoGreen F2 HD502HI 500GB
Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 HDP725050GLA360

I know that Samsung is 5400RPM and probably the slowest between those, but my main issue is the reliability. I don't like Hitachi so much so the main dilemma is between Seagate and Samsung. Are the 12 version of Seagate is still effected from the problems of 11 version or this issue was solved?

What is your opinion, please help me asap.

Thank you.

This is the problem, I checked every review I found. Because there is much more users of Seagate then there are more reported failures, so I don't sure if this is a good indication.
I found lot's of posts that contain problems with 7200.12, but I found only a few of Samsung. This is obviously because the amount of users.
Basically what I asked if there are experienced users that worked with both disks and can tell which one is better.

Is someone experienced with that specific model of Samsung, because what I read is a little bit more reliable than the Seagate alternative.
It seems that samsung is pretty fast to 5400 and it even faster than WD blue and green caviar.

Speed comparison between Seagate and Samsung:
