My question: The mobo above has an 8 pin power socket, while the PSU only has a 4 pin power connector. There is no 8 pin connector, nor is the 4 pin actually a split 8 pin with the other laying around. I have searched many forums looking to find an answer to ... is it OK to put a 4 pin into an 8 pin socket. My findings have lead me to the conclusion that it depends on the CPU. So, can anyone tell me within reason and accuracy, If I can go ahead and build this computer with the 4 pin connector into the 8 pin socket?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Quick answer, Your OK

There have been several post on this subject on toms site.
(1) this connector primarily supplies power to the CPU.
(2) The positive Pins (+12V) are all shorted together on th MB, as are the Gnd/Rtn lines. Net effect is that it reduces the Current flow per wire.
(3) Primary reason for the addition 4 pins was to support HIGH powered P4 Extremes and where TDP exceeds 125/130 Watts And even here, the only problem is in wire gauge. In a previous post I posted the Current capaibilities for the various wire gauges - Don't have info handy
