Hi,

First off I'd like to appologize if there are any existing threads on this matter, but I couldn't find anything that helped me fix my issue.

I recently purchased a new HDD (Seagate 1.5 TB HDD) and replaced my old HDD. I needed to reinstall my OS so I put in the Vista x64 disc, which took unusually long to get anywhere with, and eventually it'd reach a point where it asked for missing drivers for my dvd-rom. I tried updating the drivers, but upon trying again the same error popped up.

I decided to reinstall XP x64 instead, and it installed without any issues. Now, I boot up XP and reach my desktop and place up the disc with all the drivers I need to install, but the DVD-ROM won't read the disc.

The cause of this and the cause of the Vista installation issue might be simillar, perhaps? In any case, I was unable to find a solution to the problem.

Thanks.

I'm assuming the HDD is SATA. What about the DVD drive? Is it possible that you have a loose connection? Does the DVD drive show up in Device Manager?

There is no loose connection, I am positive. TH HDD is SATA, and the DVD drive indeed does show up in Device Manager.

I figured out the problem - the IDE cable turned out to be somewhat faulty and replacing it solved all the issues.

Thanks anyway.
