I want to upgrad my older PC which is AGP. I have choice of 7600gt or x1650pro. I want it to last for abt 3yrs, Is this possible? When are these cards going to death, becoming obsolete? I mean, as these cards are dx 9, so will they continue to run new dx10 games in future? also I am even satisfied with low settings.
I know that 7600gt is better in performance but I want more life and what i've seen is x1650 pro playing Crysis on high settings bettr than 7600gt, which makes me think it has some more life. Want ur expert suggestions. Thanx

Should get you more longevity on the AGP platform. DX10 compliant. Only $137 with shipping, after mail-in rebate. It may be the last AGP board to come out.
i think you are thinking that the 1950pro can cope fairly well with crysis. The 1650pro is quite a bit inferior.
the 1650pro still might cope better with crysis than the 7600gt...ati dx9 cards typically had more shaders than nvidia...but in older games the 7600gt is the clear winner. I wouldnt say that either card can give an enjoyable experience with crysis or other very demanding games.
Thanks to all.
I wanted a cheap fix. Yes, 3850 out of range and also not available here.
Purpose: Playing multiplayer games with my new PC.
So u mean in new games x1650 is better?(new games matter more 2 me and also longevity>performance)
What abt their lifetime, how much? 2-3 yrs OK? (ur speculations)
When will games be getting DX10 ONLY?

I don't think games will be getting DX10 ONLY any time soon, because that would mean game companies can only sell games to people who use Vista, and they'd go bankrupt. Windows XP only has DX9, and it runs the vast majority of PCs, so they'll keep supporting it. Really, no worries there.

Isn't DX10 working on XP
So u mean these cards hav 2-3 yrs in them
Also tell me whether in new games x1650 is better?

No, DX10 is not available on XP. It's strictly on Vista.
I don't know if these cards have any life left at all. That is, they are already unable to play Crysis or FrontLines with decent fps at 1680x1050. Next year's games may be even more demanding.
OK, if you want to play Diablo 2 at 800x600, they will be just perfect. AND with the various free mods available, that can easily keep you busy for 3 years.
It really depends on you: what games you play, what resolution, how much eye candy you enable.
In new games (e.g. Crysis) you will not have fun with either of these cards, so I can't say one is better. I think the 7600GT is better (the DDR3 version), but don't expect much.
Yeah go the 7600gt.....not the 7600gs...make sure it has ddr3
The 1650xt might be ok and was the card i was thinking of...the 1650pro is slower and i think the 7600gt is better.
My advice would be the 1950 pro if you can stretch to it....1950 pro was a big step up over either card whats more, it fairs better in modern games than most high end nvidia dx9 cards.
I wouldn't bother with the 3850 agp as its overpriced and chances are the rest of your pc isnt quick enough to take advantage of it.
Thanx to all especially to avem.
Well for me 1024x768 is enough, never wanted more and details to MED.
As I said my purpose is only playable new games on multiplayer LAN with new PC.
What I fearing was, it won't run new games at all !
For eye candy new PC would be there.
Dont worry about DX10 its not going to be an issue the way you mean as avem said DX9 is here to stay for a while.
I can tell you for a fact that a 7600GT as long as its the GDDR3 version is definatly better than a 1650 pro, its about the same as a X1650XT.
Ram wise you want at least 1 GB really.
mactronix
Yes SM3 will be fine.
System RAM 1 GB is what i would consider as a minimum really. Normally i would say get 2x 1 gb sticks and run then in dual channel mode, but if just getting another 1gb and putting it in suites your budget then go for that. You could definatly use more than 512, Oblivion uses about 400 ish.
What kind of processor are you using ?
Also the video card wouldnt hurt being 512mb instead of 256 but im not sure if they made a GDDR3 512 model or not.
The extra ram would help with modern games but its not something to worry about too much it would just be that bit better is all. A 256mb graphics card will be fine on a small screen say up to 19 inch, just make sure its GDDR3.
