Im kinda new at upgrading processors so bare with me if I say something stupid.

I am wanting to upgrade my diminsion 9200 cpu from the intel e6300 (1.86 GHZ) to something around 2.4 or up. Whats the fastest I can get without alot of trouble tinkering with the bios?

Thanks,
kristian

ps: I never got a confirmation email to activate my account on here. where can I get the link to do that?

sorry to say but for the amount your going to pay for a new CPU you might as well save up for a new computer.

dell like EVERY other box brand computer company locks their bio's

the chances of you changing out your cpu to something "faster" without any problems are 0 %

save your money

You can for sure put an e6600 or e6700 in that computer, which would get you to 2.4 or 2.66 Ghz. It may be able to take newer CPUs as well; best place to check would be the Dell forums.

cool ill probably go with the e6700. I currently have 2gb of RAM. would I benefit greatly by adding another 2 GB after making this processor upgrade? i am running xp pro, i do video editing with pinnacle studios.

Look up "cpu pin mod" using your favorite search engine. You can use a thin strip of copper to connect 2 pads on the back of your cpu to get 1333 fsb out of your cpu, a 25% overclock. Or you can use conductive solution, available in some rear window defroster kits at auto parts stores. The copper tape works best. Fry's electronics sells it for about $3.
